Yoga Inspired Note Cards

September 14, 2014

Yes, the Redskins won today!  But it came with a price, our quarterback, RG III got hurt with a dislocated ankle and it does not look very good ...... all of Washington will be hoping he can come back before the season is over - but in the mean time Kirk Cousins came in and did an awesome job giving us a win and hope for the season with a possibility that RG III may be out for the season.

We are huge Skins fans ...... I mean huge fans & Sundays are all football in our house ........ we miss having Katryna here States side watching the games at SJU, hopefully she will have can stream it on her laptop or find a restaurant in Florence that shows the games catering to all the American students.

RG III - here's hoping for a speedy recovery!

Yoga inspired note cards - here are a few pictures of what I made for Sage Yoga Studio - tell me what you think!

Thank you Heidi.  These were lots of fun to make and package, since they are so different from the birthday & thank you cards I usually make .......... my favorite is the Tree of Life card.

Next project - holiday cards and gifts!

Thanks for stopping in.  Until next time ................

Labor Day

September 2, 2014

So, Labor Day has come and gone & another summer with lots of memories!  We spent the long weekend at the lake with Dinesh having four of his buddies over.  The kids had a blast tubing and swimming, and Mr. Craft and I actually took it easy most of the time instead of the usual, which is always finding stuff to fix around the house.  We also skyped with Katryna - it was so good to see her.  She has certainly settled in well and was looking forward to starting her classes on yesterday. We text each other everyday just so we know she is ok .......... yeah, I know that sounds crazy, but that little rule was established by Mr. Craft before she left.  Either way, it is great to hear from her every day.

On Sunday I decided to give an old bench a new look.  I picked it up at a flea market a few years back as I loved how the head board and foot board of an old twin bed was used to make the bench - just love it.  So after looking at a bunch of colors, I decided to give it a really pretty yellow .......  couldn't quite finish it as I wanted to use an accent color on the round spools against the back - will finish it when we go back up to the lake in two weeks.

Here's a picture of the bench prior to painting - I meant to take a picture half way through painting, but was so into it...... I guess that didn't happen.  Will post some before and after pictures once it's done.

Also this weekend I pulled out a dresser I had bought at a flea market about a year ago - the big question with this is, what color should I paint it - and should I use Chalk Paint or Miss Mustard Seed Paint.

I have a few other pieces that are sitting in the garage which I should pull out and start working on - hopefully between work & my card making I can start on the dresser sometime soon - would love to find a great home for it once I paint it.

Will be back soon - until next time ...........

End of Summer - Sort Of .......

August 27, 2014

Hi!  Now that schools have started, I guess you can say that summer is 'unofficially' over.  For us it was an exceptionally hard end to the summer as Katryna started her junior year in college - in Florence, Italy!  The week leading up to her leaving on Sunday was really rough, for both her and us - it was very hard to say bye at the airport ....... but, I have to constantly remind myself that she is growing up, or should I say 'grown up' and is embarking on her own life.

Studying in Italy was a dream she had for a long long time, and we are happy and blessed to give her this opportunity.  I know she is going to enjoy every minute of her stay in Florence.  Over the summer, she and her room mate were planning several trips to different places in Europe ........ I guess if there was any a time to do it, it's now before she settles into a job in a year or two.  Although, it was only yesterday that Mr. Craft realized that this is more like a 4 month European vacation that mom & dad are paying for.   Oh well, like I said before, we are so blessed that we are able to give her this opportunity - for Katryna, travelling and seeing the world is in her blood, and this is just the beginning of her life adventures.  We miss her lots, and cannot wait to see her back home in December.

We also have our 'little boy' who started his junior year in high school.  This is a big year for him with college decisions and college visits between now and next spring.  The other big part of this school year is Dinesh switching from trumpet to drum line in the marching band - he is so so excited ..... actually we are too - cannot wait till the first home game to see the band perform.  It's going to be a tough year - it's only day three and homework is taking three plus hours!

So with all the happenings with the kids and now that we are back to somewhat of a 'routine', I am back to making my cards and to more frequent blogging.  My yoga studio, Sage Yoga will be carrying my yoga inspired cards - thank you Heidi!  I also have to get ready for the first holiday bazaar in November - where is the time going.  I sure have my work cut out for me over the next couple of weeks, but very excited.

So, here's to a great school year to all.  Thank you for stopping by and until next time ...........

21 Years!

July 23, 2014

Hi!  Twenty-One years married today!

Seems like a long time but not really - Mr. Craft & I have been truly blessed these 21 years with two beautiful kids and a love that has grown deeper and stronger over the years not just from our hearts, but from our very souls ...... he is the best thing that ever happened to me in every aspect of my life - my biggest supporter in everything, whether it's my career, or my crafting.  He is an absolutely wonderful father to Katryna & Dinesh, puts up with me and my craziness which can be exhausting by itself :)  specially when I have those mid-life moments and trust me they seem to come pretty frequently ... haha.  The best 'moment' was when I decided to start my crafting journey about 4/5 years - he just gave me this look thinking, "ok, she is having one of those moments, again!

Mr. Craft has always gone along for the ride no matter what it is - we both love the same things ...... whether it is sitting out on the deck and enjoying a drink together, travelling, cooking, etc., and yes, even dabbling with me and my crafts. He actually loves building or upcycling something for me - made a great coffee table with an old vintage window I had not too long ago.

So, to my rock and my soul mate - happy anniversary and looking forward to spending the next 21 years and many many more after that - love you very much sweetie.

Until next time ........................

Summer, Summer, Summer

July 22, 2014

Hi Everyone! Summer is half way through and it has been great so far.  We have family visiting from Sri Lanka & London which has kept us all busy but having a great time ...... the only hard part has been staying up late chatting away - waking up each morning at 5:30 has been reeaaalllyyyy rough :)

Oh well, life is still good - this past weekend we were at the lake with lots of family, the weather was sort of over cast most of the day on Saturday with patches of rain here & there - so my cousins and I decided to do some flea market shopping ....... had lots of fun driving around the country side of Pennsylvania.  We all ended up picking up a few goodies - my little prize was a vintage stool that swirls, if I have to guess, it's close to about 80/90 years old.  The detail in the legs with the little rolling ball on the end of each leg encased with some wrought iron is absolutely beautiful.

So the plan is to clean it up, fix the seat and upholster it ....... will have to dig out some of my scraps of material to see what I have - just absolutely love it ...... even Mr. Craft loves it!

Also picked up a few other odds & ends including two blue mason jars.  The possibilities with these little beauties are endless!  No matter what, I can never seem to come home without a few jars.  The holiday container will go nicely with my table deco at our annual holiday party & the little pin cushion rocker with the thread holders on the arms ....... perfect accessory by my sewing machine

.All in all a great weekend!  The sun sure did come up on Sunday and we took in an early morning boat ride enjoying the quiet and the beautiful day God blessed us with.  Later on the kids got in some tubing, and before you knew it ........ yep, it was time to come back.

Hope you enjoy the pictures of the lake and until next time .....................

Father's Day

June 17, 2014

Hi there!   been away for a while - we have family visiting from Sri Lanka and it's been busy catching up with them and spending the weekends at the lake.  This past weekend we celebrated Father's Day with Mr. Craft, uncle, brother-in-law, father-in-law and a good friend whose family is back in Sri Lanka right now.  I have been so very blessed to have had a great dad, and our kids are blessed just the same.
I know all the dads out there are very special in their own way, and Mr. Craft is very very special in his own way as well and we love him dearly.  He is the rock behind me and an absolutely super dad (a bit biased I guess) to Katryna and Dinesh. : )

It's a hot and muggy week this week, but hey it beats the snow. But with all this hot and humid weather comes tornadoes which just caused havoc in Nebraska & Wisconsin yesterday ....... lots and lots of damage with so many loosing their homes - our prayers to all and we ask God to help those who have lost everything, and give them the strength to get back on their feet and bring some sort of normalcy back in their lives.

Until next time .................

Summer is Here!

June 3, 2014

Hi!  Well summer is here for sure! 80 & humid is what they are calling for today .... I guess we should not be complaining considering the loooong winter we had.  Hoping to do some grilling of some hamburgers tonight if it does not rain - if it does, I guess it will be pizza!

Heading up to the lake this weekend - the Cottage Pine Antique store in Somerset, PA is having their annual flea market sale .... really looking forward to spending a good part of the day browsing and hoping to pick up a few things for the lake house :)  there is nothing like spending a day just walking through a flea market & admiring all the beautiful vintage treasure folks have collected over the years .....

...... sort of like this little cute Coca Cola tray I found when digging through some of my some stuff I had stashed away.
Hope you all have a great day
                                                  Until next time ..................

Everything Vintage

May 20, 2014

Hi!  I am trying so hard to post at least 2/3 times a week - it's not easy when you are working full time.  I try to use my commute time in the morning & evening to catch up with reading all the wonderful craft blogs and getting inspired ..... which really makes it even harder to not want to do anything than just craft all day.  Oh well, hopefully one day soon!

I take the commuter train to Washington, D.C. from Germantown - which has a somewhat vintage looking train station. Clearly, the station has some history which was first built in 1878.

It was later taken down when Ephraim Francis Baldwin was appointed the head architect for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad and re-built in 1891.  In 1978 vandals burned down the station ... but with the help of federal funding and the original plans of Francis Baldwin, which were archived at the B & O Railroad Historical Society, it was reconstructed on the original site in 1987.  Currently the train operates between West Virginia and Washington, DC along the Brunswick line.

Along the lines of every thing Vintage, here are a few more pictures of what I have collected at the lake house.

Until next time .....................

At the Lake

May 14, 2014

It's already Wednesday, or 'hump day' as it is more affectionately called.  Meant to post this on Monday, but as you can see, time sure got away from me

This past weekend was very busy at the lake - Mr. Craft & I headed to the lake to open up the house for the summer.  Yep, lots of cleaning, dusting off cobwebs, pulling out deck furniture etc - it pretty much rained all day on Saturday, so the cleaning inside worked out well ..... yep, until we had to go outside to pull out the furniture .... but it was all good - got quite a bit of stuff done.   Saturday evening we ended up going to the lodge for a couple of drinks & dinner, which was nice just to sit back & relax after a long busy, rainy day.

As I was cleaning, I decided to take pictures of some of the vintage furniture and stuff I have in the house - didn't realize quite what I had - I still have a lot of decorating to do .. too many empty walls and corners ~ I guess that's what flea markets are all about!

Love this basin and jug!

Got back home early on Sunday in time to celebrate Mother's Day. Grilled some great steaks, kebab's & hamburgers :)  together with all the fixings including a mean potato salad made by my mother-in-law.  Dines was so cute - he gave me a Mother's Day card (of course made my  but funny card from Dinesh ......  he has quite the sense of humor!

My sister-in-law gave me a neat book - The Everything Guide  to Selling Arts & Crafts Online.  Just flipped through the first couple of pages ..... good reading on the train ride to work and back.

So the next big news is the annual Scrapbook show on June 20/21.  This will be my first time - already took the day off from work and plan on spending the entire day on Friday checking out some of the work shops and filling as many bags as I can carry with paper, embellishments, punches, holiday paper, etc. :) kinda like being a kid in a huge toy store ........... cannot wait!

Until next time ...................

Happy Mother's Day!

May 10, 2014

Hi There!  Mother's Day - by far one of the most important days in the year .... being a mom is the most rewarding & gratifying job in the world!  A mom is so much more than fixing meals, chicken soup when your kids are sick, shuttling them back and forth from track, football practice etc. - it also means being able to be understanding, having patience (some times that is reeaallyy hard), empathy, strength, humor, compassionate, friend & a protector no matter how old they are - and the most important, having unconditional love.

I am blessed to be a mom and I would not trade it for all the gold on earth :) I have two beautiful children and they are my life (in addition to Mr. Craft).  I still have some early Mother's Day notes the kids made for me in elementary school .... had to share them.

Paper Weights

I wish my mother was with us today, she was the anchor to all of us - tough, loving, open minded, always had a tale to tell - loved listening to some of the stories ......  and like all moms, she guided us to make sure we stayed on track - we are who we are and where we are today because of her, and I thank her for all she was and will continue to be!

To my two sister's and my sister-in-law .... and to all the moms out there an absolutely blessed Mother's Day!

Until next time .................

Happy Friday

May 2, 2014

Yes, It's Friday! It's been a looonnnggg week at work - so very happy the weekend is here :)  the first half of the week was  a solid three days of non stop heavy rain, but ..... the weather gurus are calling for a nice sunny weekend which will be very welcoming and desperately needed for ones sanity if nothing else.

Great weather and busy weekend, our neighbors for the past 15 years are packing up and moving to NC. The neighborhood has planned a farewell for them tomorrow and looking forward to seeing everyone.  Mr. Craft and I are going to miss Bob & Beth very much - they are the nicest folks and have been absolutely wonderful neighbors.  Wishing them all the very best in the next chapter of their lives and with all of Gods blessings.

Yep, May is already here and it is looking like a pretty busy month - still to make it up to the lake to open up the house and get it ready for the summer - the plan hopefully is next weekend.  I am just looking forward to spending the weekends catching a flea market here and there or just lazing around. We all need to somehow find the time to literally stop and smell the roses - sometimes I wish Mr. Craft and I could just pick up and move way out into the country somewhere, maybe find an old house that is a fixer upper with a good bit of land to do a little farming ....... you know, raise some chicken, cows, etc. and just get away from all this hustle and bustle.  Oh well, it sure is nice to dream!

On that note, I am ready to turn in for the night - hope everyone has a great weekend enjoying the nice weather.  Until next time .............

Post Easter

April 30, 2014

Hi everyone! So, Easter is over (I know it's been two weeks already), but now I can officially say we are in Spring - it really is beautiful to see all the spring blooms popping up all over.  This is also the time for some serious flea market shopping :)

Going back to Easter - it was nice to see everyone and celebrate this glorious holiday.  Katryna was home for 4 days and it was great to see her and have her home.  Both Katryna and Dinesh have grown up so very quickly, not sure where the time has gone.  Dinesh is taller than me and he looked so good and very grown up in his suite ..... as usual I was running around trying take pictures of the two of them - which they both hate .... oh well!  I keep telling them that they will thank me 50 years down the road when their kids want to see  pictures of them in their teens :)  I love taking pictures, putting them in beautiful frames and placing them all over the house - it just make a house a home.

                                                                    Katryna & Dinesh

With all the preparations for Easter, I decided to dabble with painting some terra cotta pots and trying my hand with some simple stenciling - they turned out well :)  I ended up using them to hold my cutlery and napkins - something different from the usual.  It was kinda fun painting them, think I might do a few more and also do a few with holiday designs - I have signed up for 2 holiday bazaar's in November & 1 in December.

Until next time .........

April 14, 2014

I think spring is finally here to stay - this means flea markets, garage sales and craft festivals :) :)  It also means going up to the lake to just get away from the crazy stressful lives we lead. Looking forward to spending some lazy days with family this summer.

Easter is around the corner ..... 6 days and counting!   Katryna comes home for a few days - haven't seen her since her birthday in early March :)  As always, will be celebrating Easter with family and close friends and hoping the weather will stay nice and warm with no rain for the traditional Easter egg hunt for the kids.

We have also been working on a big remodeling project over the past month and a half.  Mr. Craft and our son have been remodeling one of the bathrooms upstairs.  Its been a long  project but the end result is absolutely beautiful - the two of them worked so hard on trying to finish it before Easter ....... we have a few more details to finish up by weeks end.  I will post some of the 'before' and 'after' pictures later.

With everything going on, I also bought a few perennials this past weekend for our planter bed in the back yard.  We had it all cleaned up and it is ready for me to work on - the plan was to start yesterday, but woke up with my allergies in overdrive ....... oh well.  As much as I (and everyone else) are glad, happy and thrilled that Sping is finally upon us ..... it is the season for allergies - yes with everything blooming, I am just miserable.  It's kinda hard to be working in the garden with a stuffy head - hoping the medication kicks in real fast so I can enjoy all this beauty.

As for my card making - I am working on placing my cards again this spring/summer at two of our local family run stores - in time for Mother's Day :)    Here are some of the cards I made recently for a craft festival - enjoy!
